Chapter 1: A Chance Encounter
His years in space have left him grizzled and curmudgeonly. In his approximately 520 years in the Royal Space Navy, he has never spent more than 5 consecutive minutes in a gravity well, at least until that fateful day in the barstool nebula when he and his crew of 28 first encountered the Vith. At first the strange starship seemed derelict as it slowly tumbled at the Lagrange point between the gas giant Durainium and its largest moon Panera.
The clock was ticking. At four minutes and fifty five seconds the helmsman reached up to engage the primary drive to jump out of the gravity well when Admiral Nelson grabbed his hand. The clock struck five minutes. The crew on the command deck gasped. The clock ticked on. The first officer started to unstrap his restraining harness. "Wait." Nelson spoke. "You see that?" silence. "Wait. There it is again." All eyes were focused on the tumbling wreck. "The flash. The green flash. Do you see it?"
A faint sort of green sparkling was emanating from one of the drive ducts on the tumbling spacecraft. It looked almost like some sort of electrical discharge. Nelson continued to squint at the apparition on the screen. "I have been looking for this for a hundred years. That ship there is the most powerful vessel in the galaxy. That there ship is powered with a Necco wafer drive system." The crew gasped again......
Chapter 2: A Terrible Mistake
Meanwhile, aboard the strange vessel...
