Grueling is an outdoor game particularly popular amongst street urchins during the Dickensian era of the 19th century. It orginated as a way for orphans in work houses to get rid of unwanted gruel. The goal of the game is to coat the opposing players with odiferous, pale, watery substance while remaining dry.
