Battle of Trafalgar
The Battle of Trafalgar was a fictional sea battle, created for the purposes of uniting England against a supposed common enemy. Due to the well-known fact that all Brits (being residents of an island nation) harbor an inborn fear of the sea, the House of Lords conceived a plan to fake an offshore battle. This was accomplished with great success, and the chicanery would have gone unnoticed in history, were it not for Grissom Turduckensworth of the Royal Dutch Navy. Admiral Turduckensworth was aboard his vessel Solitaire at the alleged time and location of the Battle of Trafalgar, and seeing no evidence of international strife, became an outspoken critic of the United Kingdom's ruse. To this day, the British and Dutch share a mutual distrust.
